When I was a kid racing BMX, the Friday night before race day was spent cleaning and tuning my bike. At age 13, I didn’t have the hundred or so dollars to buy a repair stand. Instead I would do what I could with the handlebar balanced against a tree, or if I needed to remove a wheel, or repack the bottom bracket, I’d flip the bike over. The handlebars and seat made a really nice, built-in repair stand. But a real repair stand really is handy, and I can afford the luxury of a Park Tool stand in my garage.
